How I worked this out
I run tradewebsite.uk, so I am one of the six options in this table. That is exactly why I have shown every sum and linked every source. Check my working.
The rules I followed:
- Prices come only from each company's own UK pricing page, checked in September 2026. I did not use review sites or forums.
- I picked the cheapest paid plan that lets a trade business run a proper site.
- I used the cheapest billing option (usually paying a year up front).
- I assumed the listed price stays the same for three years. Where I could not verify the renewal price, I say so.
- Where I could not verify a number, I left it out. I did not guess.

Reading the table fairly
These six are not the same product, so the cheapest line is not automatically the right one for you.
- GoDaddy, Squarespace and Wix are do it yourself builders. You get a full editor, multi page sites, and on most plans bookings, payments or a shop. You build it and you pay for as long as the site is live.
- UENI builds the site for you. The price includes a domain, an email address and done for you edits. You are paying for labour.
- Yell is a managed marketing package. The website (up to 30 pages) comes with listings, blog content, review tools and an account team. It belongs in a different budget from the rest.
- Tradewebsite.uk is one page, made for trades, built by you in about 2 minutes. No shop, no bookings, no email address, no domain included.
What about the free plans?
Wix and GoDaddy both have a free plan with no card needed. Squarespace says it has no free plan, only a 14 day trial. UENI's UK pricing page did not show a free plan when I checked.
Free plans are useful for trying an editor. For a business there is a catch. Wix says in its own FAQ that you need a paid plan to connect your own domain and to remove Wix branding. Before you rely on any free plan, open your free site on your phone and look at it the way a customer would: the web address, the branding, and whether it looks like a firm you would let into your home. The cheapest online presence of all is not a website. It is a Google Business Profile, which is free, and you should set one up whichever builder you pick.
When the cheapest changes: years four and five
Three years is a fair window, but it flatters subscriptions a little, because a one off price does all its charging in year one. Run the same sums to five years, again assuming listed prices hold:
- GoDaddy Starter: £7.49 x 60 = £449.40
- Squarespace Basic: £12 x 60 = £720
- UENI Website Launch: (£15.83 x 60) + £599 = £949.80 + £599 = £1,548.80 +VAT
- Tradewebsite.uk: still £299, plus about £40 to £75 of domain renewals
The crossover points are easy to work out. £299 divided by £7.49 is just under 40, so I pass GoDaddy Starter at around month 40. £299 divided by £12 is just under 25, so I pass Squarespace Basic at around month 25.
How tradewebsite.uk works
Here is my whole offer, so you can hold it against theirs. You build a one page site yourself at edit.tradewebsite.uk/start. It takes about 2 minutes and you do not enter a card. The site is free for 14 days. If you want to keep it, you pay £299 once. There is no monthly fee and hosting is included. If you do not pay, the site is switched off and nothing is charged. Which one should you pick?
Pick GoDaddy, Squarespace or Wix if
- You need online bookings, payments or a shop.
- You want several pages or full control of the design.
- You would rather spread the cost and you accept a bill every year.
- Between them: GoDaddy had the lowest listed UK price, Squarespace is the one to look at if design sells your work, and Wix lists thousands of templates and has a free plan to learn on.
Pick UENI if
- You want someone else to build the site and make your edits, and you accept a setup fee plus a monthly plan for that.
Pick Yell if
- You have a marketing budget of several hundred pounds a month and want it all managed by one company.
Pick tradewebsite.uk if
- You want one page that makes the phone ring, you want it live today, and you never want a monthly website bill.
- You plan to be trading in three or four years, which is when paying once clearly wins.

Because they are selling work, not just software. UENI builds the site for you and includes a domain, an email address and done for you edits, for £15.83 +VAT a month on yearly billing plus a £599 +VAT setup fee. Yell includes the website inside a managed marketing package that starts at £299 per month.
Is a one off website really cheaper than a monthly builder?
Only after the break even point. £299 once is more than a year of GoDaddy Starter (£89.88) or Squarespace Basic (£144). It passes Squarespace Basic at around month 25 and GoDaddy Starter at around month 40. If you expect to trade for years, the one off price wins. If you only need a site for a year, a subscription is cheaper.
