What Wix is, and what it charges
I checked the official Wix plans page in September 2026. Wix has a free plan and four paid plans: Light, Core, Business and Business Elite.
One thing to know before you compare numbers. When I opened the Wix plans page from the UK without an account, it showed prices in US dollars, not pounds. Wix says on that page that prices and currency vary by location, that the dollar prices are shown for reference only, and that you see the final price on the purchase page before you pay. So I am not going to quote you a pound price for Wix, because I could not verify one on their own site. The reference prices shown were:
- Light: $17 a month
- Core: $29 a month
- Business: $39 a month
- Business Elite: $159 a month
Wix states that those displayed prices are for yearly subscriptions, paid in full at the time of purchase, and that they do not include applicable taxes. So the monthly figure is really a yearly bill, paid up front, with tax added on top.
Each paid plan listed a free domain for 1 year. Wix explains that this is a voucher, that it only works on a new domain bought from Wix, and that it cannot be used to renew a domain. From year two you pay for the domain.
What the Wix free plan leaves out
The free plan is real and needs no credit card. But Wix says in its own FAQ that you need a Premium plan to connect your own domain and to remove Wix branding from your site. For a trade business that matters. A customer deciding who to let into their house will see a web address that is not yours and another company's branding on your page. The free plan is a good way to try the editor. It is not a finished business website.
How tradewebsite.uk works
Here is my whole offer, so you can hold it against theirs. You build a one page site yourself at edit.tradewebsite.uk/start. It takes about 2 minutes and you do not enter a card. The site is free for 14 days. If you want to keep it, you pay £299 once. There is no monthly fee and hosting is included. If you do not pay, the site is switched off and nothing is charged. The 3 year cost, with the working
I can only do the Wix sum in dollars, because that is what Wix showed me.
- Wix Light: $17 x 36 months = $612, plus taxes, plus the domain renewal in years two and three. If the price changes when you renew, the total changes too.
- Wix Core: $29 x 36 months = $1,044, plus taxes, plus the domain from year two.
- Tradewebsite.uk: £299 once, plus your domain at about £8 to £15 a year. Over three years that is £299 + £24 to £45 = £323 to £344.
To get your own Wix figure in pounds, start a free Wix site, press upgrade, and read the purchase page. Multiply the yearly price by three and add two years of domain renewal. Then you have a fair comparison using their real number and not my guess.
The shape of the two costs is the real difference. A subscription costs a little now and keeps costing. A one off costs more on day one and then stops. After three years the subscription is still running.
Who should pick Wix
- You want to sell products online or take payments on the site. Wix lists payments and eCommerce on Core and above. I do not offer a shop.
- You want customers to book and pay for appointments on the site. Wix lists scheduling on Core and above.
- You want several pages, a blog, or a site you can redesign whenever you like. Wix gives you a drag and drop editor and a large template library.
- You enjoy tinkering and you have the evenings to do it.
- You would rather pay a smaller amount each year than £299 in one go.
If any of those is you, Wix is the better tool and I would tell you that on the phone too.
Who should pick tradewebsite.uk
- You are a plumber, electrician, builder, roofer, gardener or similar, and the job of your website is to make the phone ring.
