Accreditations and trust marks worth showing
The qualifications customers are told to look for are City and Guilds NPTC certificates of competence (chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting, felling, tree climbing and aerial rescue, using a chainsaw from a rope and harness). Lantra Awards equivalents count too. List what you hold. Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor status is the top mark in the trade, so if you have it, lead with it. Working to BS 3998, the British Standard for tree work, is worth a sentence.
State your public liability cover, and employers' liability if you have groundsmen, since that one is a legal requirement. A waste carrier licence covers the chip and timber you take away. Trees in a conservation area or under a Tree Preservation Order need the council's say before work, and saying you check this for the customer is a genuine selling point.
Mistakes tree surgeons make online
- Leading with "lopping and topping". People do search for it, but it is also the wording doorstep traders use, so pair it with the proper terms.
- Saying "fully insured" with no amount and no insurer type. Anyone can type those two words.
- Only action shots of climbing, and no photos of the tidy garden after you left.
- No mention of TPOs or conservation areas, which careful customers take as a sign you do not check.
